zegel doorknippen

Peking part II

June 6

Our cars will arrive Sunday June 10 at the Xingang harbor. We hope to be able to pick them up shortly thereafter. This means we have a few more day in Peking then planned. We have had contact with Save the Children Peking and will visit them tomorrow afternoon. In the meantime we are acting like tourists, all in pace due to the 36 degrees. Visited a people’s neighborhood a so called ‘Hutong’. Small streets and everything build closely together, very cozy. Although the locals are very friendly its hard to get into contact with them. Using a riskja we were brought to the Hutongdistrict after which we visited the ‘Drum tower’. These towers where used in old days to announce time, similar to our church bells.

DE RALLY

The most heroic rally in the history of the motor car took place in 1907, from Peking to Paris. Five cars drove 16,000 kilometers through Asia, Russia and Europe, mainly over very difficult terrain. In 2007, Peter Uithol and Dirk Regter hope to repeat this feat in a 1915 Ford Model T with the aim of raising money for Save the Children through sponsorship. The Save the Children organisation can use this money to support projects for children in Mongolia. The costs of the journey will be paid for from the drivers’ own resources, partially supported by a number of different companies. All the funds raised through the kilometer sponsorship will go to Save the Children.
