Prince Scipione Borghese: the driver and owner of the Itala, the car that won the rally. He was a rich Italian aristocrat, a former diplomat and an ardent mountaineer with various records to his name. Ettore Guizzarde was his mechanic. Luigi Barzini was a journalist who worked for various European newspapers. He later wrote a book about the rally.

Charles Godard: a French circus artist who earned his keep as a “wall of death” motorcycle racer. He drove the rally in a car borrowed from the Dutch Spyker car plant. He began the rally without a cent in his pocket. During the race, he borrowed food, money, petrol and other such commodities from embassies and the other teams. At the end of the rally, he was arrested in France and imprisoned for embezzlement. His co-driver, Jean du Taillis, was a European journalist.

Georges Cormier and Victor Collignon (at the wheel): Both rally drivers were hired by the De Dion Bouton car plant to drive two of their cars in the rally. At that time, De Dion Bouton was the largest car plant in France.

Auguste Pons: he was the driver of the Contal, the three-wheeler. This vehicle broke down in the Gobi desert and did not complete the rally.
